Q&A on Levels

Q:  Does the Johnson Level & Tool limited warranty apply to items purchased on on-line auction sites such as e-Bay?

A:  No. Our warranty states "Seller extends the following limited warranty to the initial purchaser and first end-user only..." We consider anything sold on auction web sites as used equipment, therefore the warranty does not apply.

Q: How do I check the accuracy of a spirit level?

Checking accuracy is a very simple process.

To check the horizontal vial:

  1. Place the level on a flat surface.
  2. Make two marks:
    1. One at an end of the level.
    2. One along the side of the level, in the center where the vial is.
  3. Look at the vial and take a reading of the bubble's position.
  4. Rotate the level 180° end-to-end and align the level with your marks.
  5. Take a second reading. If the level is accurate, the bubble will be in the same position for both readings.

To check the vertical vial:

  1. Hold the level against a vertical flat surface, like a wall.
  2. Make two marks:
    1. One at an end of the level.
    2. One along the side of the leve, in the center where the vial is.
  3. Look at the vial and take a reading of the bubble's position.
  4. Rotate the level 180° side-to-side and align the level with your marks.
  5. Take a second reading. If the level is accurate, the bubble will be in the same position for both readings.
