Eric Jopp (host): Hi guys, Eric here with Tools in Action, today we are going to go over the Johnson digital level. The model level is 40-6028, this is the 28 inch level, they also offer a 48 inch level.

LCD Digital Readout Screen - Cool!

Couple things to note on there, it does have the glow view on all three areas where the bubble is located. As you can see very easy to read. It has an LCD screen which we like a lot. Which we’ll get into—but Johnson is a name you know. it’s a very powerful name they’ve been making levels for a long time.  Very quality levels, so I do like that about them. To go into the actual LCD which we think is just really cool to have on a level. It rotates 180 degrees, so either side of the level you’re on, you can see, and up top you can see.

Couple things to note, it runs off three triple “A” batteries that are included.  Comes with a carrying case and the three triple “A” batteries run for sixty hours so you get a lot of life on three little triple “A” batteries.  Let’s take a look at the actual LCD which we like a lot.

Now were going to get into the business end of it.  It’s got the LCD like we said. We’re going to ahead, you can see there’s five buttons down below:  there’s a power button—so as soon as you turn it off you can hear it beeping right away. Basically what it does is let you know if it’s in zero to ten degrees of being level. You want to turn it off and there’s a button right there to turn it off.  The audible is great if you are working above your head and you can’t see if you’re level or not it’s just a great audible noise to have to alert you. On the far left side is the calibration or the reference.  If you hit reference it will set it to zero, but we don’t want this so right now we are going to reset it.

Next button is the mode button.  We like this it has five different units of measurements.  You click the first one it has millimeters, it’s got degrees, percent, it has fractions—so you can see your off by ¾ off by inch, an  inch, 1 1/8th.  We like on the LCD also where you need to go with the level to make it level.  And the last one is inches and feet. So we like it, it gives you a lot of different information on the digital screen.

Again if you’re working overhead, which is nice and you can’t see this, all you got to do is hit the hold button, and it’s going to hold it into place; so when you take it down you can see how far off you were.  So I like the hold feature on that.

On the top, you can see it through the top which is nice—you can see it, it rotates 180 degrees. So, one thing we do like you can see right now tells you how far off—lets get the hold off there. As soon as I flip it over you can see the numbers invert.  Which is cool so you can truly use the level on either side of it, you don’t have to whatever the LCD has, it allows you to have more freedom using either side of the level.

It is accurate to a plus/minus point of one degree.  So, overall this sis a great level— we like it a lot the 28 inch is nice the 48 inch is great level too. You’re getting a name, a name you can trust with Johnson level. Its got a nice place to hold with a nice rubberized grip right there.  But it’s a great level we’ve been using it for a while some of the other Johnson levels we’ve been using there great—they work! They’ve been in the business for a long time and we like them.  So if you’re looking at a level. Take a look at the Johnson digital level model number on the is 40-6028.  Again this is the 28 inch level they also offer a 28 inch level.  If you want to see more reviews, more about this take a look at tools in action for other videos, reviews and also take a look at our forums.
